How Does SOFTWAVE THERAPY Work?
Softwave TRT, or Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, is a non-surgical treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. The therapy involves applying these sound waves to injured or painful areas, which promotes tissue regeneration and repair.
The treatment is called “extracorporeal” because it is applied externally, outside the body. The shockwaves penetrate deep into the tissues, enhancing blood circulation, reducing inflammation, and breaking down scar tissue. This leads to faster recovery and improved function.
Softwave TRT works by delivering acoustic waves to the targeted area. These waves create microtrauma or controlled injuries to the tissues, which stimulates the body’s natural healing response.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOFTWAVE THERAPY?
Trigger points will be identified using Tissue Regenerative Therapy (TRT) SoftWave applicators. Every time you experience a pulse during the treatment, your level of pain should dispel. Our chiropractor will ask that you communicate your levels of pain so that you can receive the best outcome. The intensity of the process will be turned up once your trigger points have been located. The process will then be repeated between 2-3 more times.
To experience long-term results, many patients will need between 6-8 treatments.
Following the treatment, most patients will experience an immediate reduction in pain. If you experience any of the following, it likely means the treatment has been successful:
Improvement in stability
A decrease in acute inflammation
A decrease in stiffness
An increase in mobility
A reduction in pain
Soreness can occur following treatment but should dissipate within a couple of days. It is recommended to not take NSAIDs such as naproxen or ibuprofen and to avoid exercising and using ice for at least two days. These should be followed to give your body the time it needs to heal and rest following your treatments.

Dr. John Kaufman, DC
Dr. John Kaufman hails from nearby Miller City, Ohio, and pursued his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Defiance College. He went on to earn his Doctorate from the National University of Health Sciences.
He is committed to providing exceptional care with a personalized, hands-on approach. Raised in a large family with seven siblings and twenty nieces and nephews, he understands the importance of empathy, communication, and genuine connection—values that carry over into his work with patients every day.
Dr. John is trained in a variety of adjustment technique as well as dry needling, enabling him to create customized treatment plans that address both pain relief and long-term wellness. His goal is not only to treat symptoms, but to help patients move better, feel better, and return to doing what they love with confidence.
Dr. Brent Heitmeyer, DC
Originally from Kalida, Ohio, Dr. Brent Heitmeyer graduated with honors from Kalida High School before attending Bowling Green State University. He earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2016 and returned to the area to help residents of Defiance and the surrounding Northwest Ohio counties live pain-free lives.
When he’s not in the clinic, you’ll likely find him enjoying the local outdoors—hunting, fishing, or golfing at one of our area’s courses.
